Return After a Long Hiatus
Updated: Aug 3, 2021
It's been a while. In all honesty, I had given up on writing for a few months (maybe even a year?). It had gotten to be too much for me. There's so much that's demanded of writers these days. We can't just create stories, edit, obsess and bleed over them. We have to put ourselves out there, market ourselves, reach out and show people the shiny things we have made and hope they don't mind the wrinkles, dings, and cracks.
But I'm back. I have decided that, even if I don't 'make it' as an author, this is my calling. I love stories. I love writing them, reading them, watching them, playing them via video games, critiquing them, sharing them. It is honestly the only real professional passion I have known. And maybe that's partly what made it so scary.
I'll keep this short. I'm not sure how often I'll be posting, as I am new to social media and interacting with people beyond a close group of friends, but I will do my best to make it at least semi-regularly.
Some awesome news, though, I am going to be working on self-publishing my first book! I have written a book before this one ("Under the Shadow of Night"), but I think it was a little too grandiose a project given where I was as a writer at the time. I will come back to it once I have honed my writing chops.
My new book, "Chiral", is going to be the first in a sci-fi/fantasy trilogy. Think Peaky Blinders meets Mistborn with a magick system based on potential energy manipulation and volatile substances that can quickly lead to a violent death. I'm currently working on beta-reader edits, but I will tease the first few chapters soon. After that, it's off to formatting and all that good stuff. I will post weekly updates (probably on Fridays?) to let you all know where I am at.
I am excited to once again share, read, and dive deep into stories with you all. Feels good to be back.
P.S. Here's a pic of me so you can put a face to the name. Looking forward to chatting with you all!
